It is hard to convey in writing how much I recommend Keith and his Team at Masters European. I took my M3 to Masters after failing a smog test. They evaluated the car and stated that we needed to replace O2 sensors to pass smog. After replacing the O2 sensors, the car still would not smog because apparently it was showing failing codes to the testing equipment at the smog station despite having appropriate emissions results. This is the point where Masters stands above the rest. A lesser shop would have thrown more parts at the problem, by suggesting we needed to replace the catalytic converter or perhaps the entire exhaust system. Masters did none of this. They stood by the original repair as solving the problem and stated that we simply needed to find out why the car’s DME (onboard computer) was not showing the appropriate codes to the testing equipment. This did not prove to be an easy task. Keith reached out to his colleagues to discuss the issue and discovered this is a known problem for e46 M3’s, but BMW has not really done anything to solve it. No one had a great solution, but one suggestion was to reach out to tuning shop in Florida that specializes in resetting a BMW’s DME such that the vehicle will be able to smog successfully. This was not as easy as it sounds. I know that Keith personally put in HOURS of additional time to get the results we needed in working with the tuning shop. In the end, Keith did exactly what he said (make the car smog by replacing the O2 sensors) and did not charge me for any of the additional time Masters spent solving the DME problem. When I picked up the M3, Keith indicated he was glad they were able to work on the car and learn so much about the issue. I believe he was being absolutely sincere. After we were successful at the smog station, Keith reached out to all of his colleagues with whom he consulted to let them know what Masters had done to solve a very complex problem, which I thought was incredibly thoughtful and generous. He also emailed me a copy of the DME file, so if life takes us different directions, I have that in my back pocket. Masters is the place if you want top notch service at a fair price. Undoubtedly the best.
